What is VenaSeal?

The VenaSeal closure system is a method of treating varicose veins by using a medical-grade adhesive.

It works by blocking up the affected vein so blood can’t get through. If there’s no way through the vein, your body directs blood flow to a healthy vein instead. The VenaSeal-treated vein starts to shrivel up, and it gradually fades away.

What happens during the VenaSeal procedure?

The team at The Upper East Side Vein Institute uses a single dose of a local anesthetic to numb your leg at the injection site. Once you’re comfortable, your provider inserts a small catheter (medical tubing) into your vein.

When the catheter is in place, your provider directs the VenaSeal adhesive into it and ensures it’s in exactly the right position. Then, they apply pressure to your leg to help the vein seal properly and remove the catheter.
